Dr. Kiran Modi

About
Founder & Managing Trustee, Udayan Care
Dr Kiran Modi founded Udayan Care in 1994, with a vision to regenerate the rhythm of life of the disadvantaged. Today, Udayan Care works in 34 cities spread across 15 states of India, with chapters in the USA and Germany. Dr. Modi’s quest for learning and evidence-based ground-breaking work has led her to initiate several programs that work towards family strengthening and care reform in India. She has successfully laid the model for a wide range of work on child and youth care in India. Her focus has been on the education of girls from deprived backgrounds, providing group homes, and ensuring skilling and employment. Dr.Kiran steered a national research study on Care Leavers in India: ‘Beyond 18’, which led to many dialogues with state and central governments as well as advocacy and practitioner groups, bringing about awareness and reforms. She is the recipient of many prestigious awards, including the National Award for Child Welfare 2014 - India’s highest commendation for a non-profit child welfare organization.
